Gobo sighed, putting his back against the first dry wall they came across and carefully, gingerly lowering himself down to a sitting position.

It was supposed to be a fun duo adventure! With all that'd been going on in the Rock lately the two of them hadn't had much time to themselves. This was going to fix that; just the two of them. Then a path through a rather wet cave wound up dropping Gobo down a muddy slope, and by the time he whooshed and banged to the bottom he was hurting in about three different places. Wembley was doing his best, but first they had to get somewhere drier- done, now -and then he could start fixing it.

Once he just... sits here for a minute, first.

Daniel stepped up to Jinks' door. She wasn't exactly the only one that could help him, but she was certainly the closest. Raising his free hand he knocked twice.

"Jinks? You home?"

For once, Roshanak had a day off from her apprenticeship with Lukra, or helping her mom with errands at the restaurant, or studying for the Sentinel's trials. Hell, she'd probably still be doing the first or the third today if Lukra hadn't convinced her to blow off some steam. (Yes, the joke had been horrible, but at least the eye roll Ro gave back was a smiling one.) So out in the city she was, starting her morning with a good long jog around Birchpointe; she needed to keep her agility and stamina up as well as her strength, and getting a deeper understanding of the city would help with patrols.

There were few people out in the open thanks to a cold snap, and what people Roshanak passed were bundled up in multiple layers against the wind, but Ro only had a thin black pullover over her shirt and toned muscles, and even then she was starting to overheat. Here seemed like a good place to stop for a while at least... A few seconds of panting and stretching, a few glugs of water, and checking her time on her phone (3 miles in 29 minutes... not bad, but could be better)... but then something catches her eye... Coincidentally, the street she was on passed the boundary between the commercial district and a big fancy mansion, one fancy enough to post guards at the front gate too. And one of those macho man guards was cornering a shy, pretty girl against the wall, bragging about he had access to the big fancy mansion he was guarding and could totally show the girl a good time. And of course the girl wasn't interested, even looking scared, while the dudebro partner just leered on in approval. Joy... well, so much for Ro going a few months without fighting...

"Hey, golf-pencil-dick!" And Dudebro One turned to see a very tall, very muscular woman heading his way. The blue eyes seemed to flash in stark contrast to her autumn orange skin and... were the roots of that long black undercut glowing? "What part of 'she's not interested' can't you understand?"

A chill wind blew through the alleyways and streets of Duckburg. This was not a place of happiness and joy, not like it would be decades hence. In the future the lights would be warm and there would be Christmas cheer lining the snowways. But this year, while people might celebrate the holidays on their own hearth, out in the sidewalks they kept their heads down and coats tucked close to them.

The coldest hearth of all was the monolith high on Killmotor Hill, topping only the dark and foreboding Manor across the city. Either place was grim as a tomb, with only one path well-worn between them, no one else having need or desire to come calling. Some looked up at these dedications to business, to intelligence and cleverness, to strength- had been around to see them turn to monuments of greed, of loneliness and hatred. Come this time of year, the gossip on the streets turned to the gravekeeper of those lands. Would his family be seen? HAH they left him to die in his gold years ago, this Christmas would be no different. The old skinflint would be just as alone as before.

Maybe if they were lucky he'd finally just pop off...

[It had to be around here somewhere. For three days, Collin had been chasing a lead he'd gotten from a nearby village. It was primarily rumor; some others called it hearsay. But he'd heard it straight from some of the older folks living there, and when it came to herbs and old remedies...he believed them above all else. It was better than wandering with no clue as to where he was going, so he went to where the locals from the pub directed him.

Of course, knowing where a particular plant was and actually finding the thing were completely different concepts. By now, he'd gathered...he would say maybe a third of the materials he felt like he needed to even attempt to recreate a reverse engineered version of the original concoction that made him what he is today. A hybrid of a creature, some strange mix of human, elf, and unidentified animals. Even if this herb turned out to not work, he couldn't take the chance of assuming it wouldn't. He needed to at least try to find it.

The terrain where he'd wound up had become precarious. The forest gave way to a rocky expanse with small caves and tunnels littered throughout the sides of the mountains. Collin only fully realized he was in trouble when a sudden thunderclap overhead nearly caused him to leap right out of his skin, fumbling his bag before hurrying over the slippery rocks towards the nearest cave mouth just as huge water droplets begin to fall all around him.]

Great...this is just perfect.

[And now the only thing he can do is wait.]

Scrooge headed through the Manor, carrying a small assortment of teacups with him. While the cleaning service was normally good at this sort of thing, he was English Scottish after all, and he had his habits. Which meant regular cups of tea throughout the way, more if he's bringing something for Jinji or the kids, and that meant, well. Dishes. And he was an adult with his own two feet, so might as well do a bit of the chores himself.

It's while passing an open door that he paused, blinked, then doubled back and peeked inside. Yep, that certainly was a bottle brush tail waving up in the air, and that garish highlighter coloring could only mean one culprit.

"Wembley? What're you doin' here, lad?"

It had been just the past night that Chris had got back to the Tortuga with a very interesting story to tell. Sure, Martin and the others hadn't been... Well, totally certain they believed him at first. But the scans he'd collected couldn't be imagining things, that was clear! So when Martin got up the next morning and readied himself for another day of studying the animals in this forest, he'd have to admit he was hoping maybe he'd get his chance to run into this Fraggle! Meeting Gobo sounded like it had been fun and interesting.

Of course, Martin totally respected Gobo's right to be cautious and careful. It was actually really good he was, because not every human could be trusted around a rare creature! And from what Chris and the data had reported, Fraggles were literally made to be in tunnels and caves! So yeah, he wasn't going to go looking for Gobo, but he also couldn't resist checking out the wildlife in a forest cave not too far from the gang's resting spot today, because, well, what if! You never knew when an exciting kind of creature would decide to approach.

What a misadventure this was! Seemed like every time they came to the forest, something wound up going wrong. Of course, that could be said about the tundra, too. And the savannah. And the desert. And...

Anyway, today had been a check-up on an earlier adventure, counting any newly growing oak trees after the whole "blue and the gray" incident. However, they'd all gotten separated in this thick growth forest and well, now there was Chris the squirrel, descending from the canopy after another search for the Tortuga overhead. It was on the way down, too, that he saw something... odd. A flash of- purple? pink? Honestly it looked like a thistle but while this was the right part of the world it was the wrong sort of range for them. And, on further investigation, this one was moving.

With all his squirrel powers Chris started hopping after it from branch to branch, finally spotting the Whatever as it came out into the open a bit. And it was- he didn't know WHAT it was. Which meant, new species! Wait no- NEW SPECIES. There we go.

Although... this was an odd thing, it seemed both animal and human. His instincts kicked in and he got both curious and wary. A trap? Maybe, but the villains were usually more obvious than that. And this being just seemed to be travelling naturally, with its own little backpack and everything. Chris continued hopping along, sticking high in the trees where he could observe without being observed, and he took mental notes on the Whatever, missing crew forgotten for the moment. When it seemed to be stopping to make a little campsite, he stayed close to a tree trunk well above it, still no further along in his inquiry than he was before.

This whole thing was weird...

This was the absolute worst! He wasn't supposed to be in charge of children, he was supposed to be the jester, telling jokes and leading the court in songs! He wasn't supposed to be running in fear either, but a whole horde of Poison Cacklers had come and everyone scattered. Their Majesties Flock and Leko had charged Sidebottom- WHY HIM?? -with getting the crown prince out of the kingdom and well.

Here he was, running through the tunnels with a bundle in his arms, bells jingling harshly in his wake. There was only one place to go, he'd have to be careful not to run across any other Fraggles but there was only one person he knew for help...!

Some people may look forward to the end of their work day, but a certain rat always hated closing time. It had been another successful day at La Ratatouille restaurant. Remy had been completely in the culinary zone - as always - to the point that he hadn't even thought given thought to if he'd spend the night back with the colony, or at Linguini's home.

Hmm, did it seem Linguini had been eating well at home, or did he need Remy to make sure he got some quality meals? That might be the deciding factor. He glanced out the window at his friend, who was not above still taking out the garbage after the restaurant closed, trying to gauge- Wait a second, something was out there. Oh, Linguini hadn't seen the bright and furry creature, but Remy had - if only for a second - and he was instantly torn for a reaction.

On the one hand, pests! At his restaurant! But then, there'd been a time when Remy himself had been just seconds away from stealing bread, desperate and nearly starving... Maybe he'd have to see this thief to make a judgement call. After telling Colette that he'd be there a bit longer tonight, and asking she pass that on to Linguini as well, Remy got down to the ground and ran out the door (on just two legs, of course) as Linguini came back in.

"Hey!" he called, darting around and through the trash - ew ew ew ew, it smelled so bad he could almost taste it. "Hey, get back here!"

Gobo sighed softly as he rested, belly down, on the boulder, a bolt hole in the ground behind him just in case. He had his chin pillowed on his arms, his tail lightly waving back and forth, his expression pensive and far away. The boulder was still warm from the day even though the sun was already halfway behind the horizon, and he watched the colors streak the sky as twilight marched closer. He sighed, eyes closing for a moment, then reopening in a slow blink.

It really was pretty out here, so at least there was that...

Boober Fraggle did not go outside.

Honestly, it was a miracle he'd come to Outer Space anyway (but he would've been the only one of the Five left at the Rock and he definitely hadn't wanted that), but here he was not only in Outer Space but in Silly Creature space. Oh sure, it was somewhere he'd frequented before, a little mom-and-pop general store, but those times, like this one, he wasn't alone. Sometimes he'd been with Silly Creatures- ducks from the Manor -but the best times were when he could finagle other Fraggles to go on his errands with him.

Which was not nearly often enough for his tastes.

But, duty called, and so here he was, walking down the aisle with Gobo, reading off a list in his hand.

"...and Mokey likes the lavender scented soap, but Wembley prefers the unscented because it messes with his allergies. So we've got to find small ones of both. I also need more colorsafe bleach. I'd get more bleach nuts shipped from the Rock but they're so volatile, they'd be mist by the time they got to our door."

Gobo hummed lightly as he restrung his guitar, seated slightly under one of Perdita's side tables. Sure, he was getting more used to being out here in Outer Space, especially visiting her as much as he did, but he still felt better being beneath something.

It was nice though, just some casual hanging together. No plans, no commitments for the day, no crises to put down. He vocalized wordlessly under his breath, tying the string and stretching it down to the other end of the guitar. Yeah. This was a pretty good day.

Today was a crisp winter day, and though it had snowed in the morning and was set to snow again as the afternoon waned, at the moment it was clear, the snow itself only a few inches deep. Perfect for a walk, which is exactly where they were. The forest was quiet and they seemed the only people in the whole world.

Which of course meant that Gobo was fooling around, at least at the moment. Fraggles.

Sure, it was part that he so rarely got to see snow. Even when it did get cold at home, he was often in the Rock itself, either helping with (or avoiding) Festival of the Bells preparations, being part of the ice brigade to keep the pathways from getting too slippery, or playing hockey (the regular kind, not the rock kind) on patches of ice that'd been left alone. Being able to play in the snow itself was a rare treat, and that's exactly what he was doing.

At the moment that consisted of jumping across some rocks and fallen logs, not on the actual path at all. Sure he might slip every now and again but at least the landing would be soft? Leaping from a boulder, he grabbed a low-hanging branch and swung back and forth a few beats. Then he released and leapt toward another rock, landing on one foot and balancing, before throwing out his arms with a jubilant "TA-DAH~!"

Gobo was currently sitting on the edge of the fountain out in front of McDuck Manor, a piece of paper stretched across his lap. He drew a line across it, referenced a notepad in his pocket, then crossed it to another line at a precise angle. Filling in an area with shading, he moved to another, going back over a rough sketch that was there.

Map-making, it was a bit of a tedious process, but the payoff would be great. Once he was finished, the current tunnels under Duckburg would be completely mapped out.
[personal profile] gobetween
There was a lot that Gobo had been introduced to ever since coming out to Outer Space. One of those things was the magic inherent in Fraggles, that made them as much a part of this world as any other. True, that lesson had started down in the Rock, but it was only after coming out here that he began to really see it, to feel it in everything, and most importantly today, to be able to call it up on his own.

He was out in the vicinity of Fraggle Home today, guitar in hand as he strummed nothing in particular, letting the rhythm carry him wherever it wanted to. When he'd first started, he could only cause a few wisps of light, but now that he'd been out here a while, he could almost direct it around him. Ripples went out wherever he stepped, and the swishes of his tail left little wakes of sparkles. If he kept going, he might even be able to start affecting the environment.

All he really needed was focus...

Though he had been... slowly getting used to technology, after having been around Lexi long enough and starting to live in some new tunnels under the McDuck property, most of it was still very unfamiliar and strange to him. That didn't stop him from being curious though, particularly at this.... di-men-shun-all trans-pour-der... thing... that Lexi used to go between different places. She said it was different worlds, but he didn't quite understand.

That didn't stop him from being curious either. If anything, it only made it worse.

The mansion was quiet today, perfect for a Fraggle to sneak through with all the noise of a mouse going across thick carpeting. He remembered the room they'd been in when Lexi had first shown him the thingie, and it was easy enough to find again on his own. So was the thingie itself, a weird little box with a round piece of glass on the front of it. Gobo picked it up and then stepped back with it, turning it over in his hands.

Huh. It was even weirder up close. He fiddled with some of the controls, which made a beeping noise that entertained him for a minute or so. Peering at the front, he pressed the button on top-

And then everything went white, he had the strange feeling like being sucked down a waterfall, and then nothing.

Boober knelt in the new laundry room, and though his arms were elbow deep in the washwater, he was sitting still, lost in thought. It was... so new being in a place like this, this... Fraggle Home, as it'd been called. He was familiar with homes, having been in Scrooge's mansion at least once, but it was different to be living in one now.

It wasn't that newness that was on his mind, though. It was something else. Just how Fraggle Home had gotten built. Who had organized it, had led the charge, had gotten him- them -all out here...

"Gobo..."

Gobo grunted as he pored over the many, many missives, letters, and postcards on his desk. Though becoming king had mostly meant absolutely no change in his lifestyle, since it was just a title and Fraggles would remain Fraggles, but it had also seemed to open the door to a FLOOD of inquiries and questions and other such things. Thinking back to Mokey's brief stint as the Trash Heap he supposed he shouldn't have been surprised, but surprise meant nothing when his desk was practically bowing under the weight of all of the papers.

Since when had he needed a desk anyway??

Sighing, he tossed down some new request and leaned back in his chair, scrubbing a hand at his hair. "This is way too much...." He rolled over every curseword he knew in his mind, and not one of them seemed strong enough for what he was feeling right now.

Daniel sat atop his horse, watching across the grassland. The wind gently brushed across his shoulders, rustling the ties of his bandana and the bits of hair peeking out from under his hat, the poncho shuffling around his shoulders. It was a beautiful day, but there wasn't much joy he was taking in it right now, because right now was the most boring as hell job he'd had yet.

"What am I even doing out here..." One of Little Rose's ears flicked back at her owner's voice, but she seemed to have no input. "I'm not a goddamn rat catcher..."

Sighing, he kept staring across the wilderness. Down an incline was a simple scratch of a farm, and it was the field- or what passed for it -that he was staring at, waiting for a sign of something that might not ever even come.
